The idea behind this design is to demonstrate the main character, Adrian Mole, as a slightly geeky and awkward individual. It does this by showing a black sock being worn over the top of a red sock with the title stitched as tags onto the socks. This alludes to a key section of the story where, in protest of the school’s uniform policy, Adrian wears black socks over a pair of red socks. This part of the story is also where the main love interest – Pandora – notices Adrian.
The black socks on the design are also a die cut wrap around and can be removed to reveal just the red socks and title. This was done to create a level of intrigue to the design and to add to the layered and textured feel of the design. A mixture of live photography and Photoshop skills were used in the production of this design.
